(Maybe it's not that obscure, but points distributed to whoever can tell me the origin of the name Mowgli without using the internet.)

I actually think the name pre-dates The Jungle Book. I think an author coined it in the 1800s, but I'm not certain.

We all probably know it from Disney's "Jungle Book" movie. (My favority Disney flick, by the way. Gotta love Ballo the bear and King Louie.) Disney adapted Rudyard Kipling's story with the character of the same name. Some internet research reveals that the story might predate Kipling with a legend of a lost boy in the jungle in India raised by animals.
